The circular dish painted with a seated scholar and his books at the entrance to a pavilion, inscribed with a quote from a poem, Yin Jiu #5 (Drinking Wine, #5) by Tao Yuanming: Ci zhong you zhen yi (which may be translated as "herein lies the true essence") and two seals above his head, within a barbed border, underside inscribed mei yu ("beautiful jade"), later incised da (large).
